I want to share this video because it gives me so many feels. I can relate to it on a personal level but also from the perspective of a parent.

How would you react if your teen came out to you?

There was a time when I was extremely religious and yet I still couldn’t imagine that standing in the way of loving and accepting my child.

I can understand the concern that goes along with finding out your child is LGBTQ because I went through this myself. Life is hard enough, but being gay is going to add extra trials for my child. And then when I realized that Beckett was transgender, this concern was even greater. Their life is going to be filled with prejudices and hate on top of many minor burdens. All the more reason why they need the unconditional love and acceptance of those closest too them. The world is at best an indifferent place for LGBTQ youth and at its worse, terrifying, even life threatening. If anything is preventing you from accepting your child, reach out, seek help. There are so many resources available. I strongly believe that education leads to greater acceptance.

At the end of the post I will add some links for more information.

Trigger warning

For Christian parents and or youth who are wanting to reconcile their faith with their sexuality, I highly recommend the book “God and the Gay Christian” by Matthew Vines. I read this book a few years ago and it was super helpful for me as a parent and for my personal journey.

I also recommend any of Ash Hardell’s YouTube videos, they are easy to understand and packed full of great information.
